Tips for babies:
- Start to introduce solids at around six months of age.
- First solids should be finely mashed and smooth, then graded to coarsely mashed quickly. Your baby may only take a spoonful at first, but this will increase with time and practice.
- Babies should double their birth weight by about 4 months, and triple it by their first birthday. Talk to your pediatrician if your baby is exceeding these guidelines.
Tips for children:
- Snacks are an important part of a healthy diet for active children, so offer nutritious as well as high energy snacks.
- Let children help with food preparation and meal planning.
- It is important to encourage breakfast, because a good night’s sleep followed by food in the morning helps your child stay active and concentrate at school.
- Limit screen time and aim for some physical activity every day.
